Brief Notes on Human Resources Management HR
Dr. S. Maurer, MBA Professor
If you are wanting to break into the fiëld of human resources, you will most likely have to start at an entry-level position and work your way up. A human Resource Assistant is a position that does not require a great deal of experience. Since the main focus of the job is maintaining records, there are many possible ways to gain this experience without having to be directly employed in an hr position.
human development is a complex process that takes time and involves many different variables. We need to view employee development as the gamble it is. And, gambling is an exercise in probability. Smart gamblers know how to play the odds and increase their probability of winning.
If you have trouble resisting involvement you may need to develop better communication skills. Often the problem lies in your ability to be more assertive. You have to learn how to say no to requests. Start by saying no to requests of lower importance.
The team conducted a randomized controlled trial with 604 employees covered by a managed behavioral health plan diagnosed with significant depression during web-based and telephony screening. Just over half [n=304] were offered a telephony outreach and care management program that encouraged them to enter outpatient treatment [psychotherapy and/or antidepressant medication], monitored their progress, and made recommendations to clinicians caring for them. Those reluctant to enter treatment were offered structured telephony cognitive behavioral psychotherapy. The remaining 300 hundred employees received standard care, including feedback about their results and advice to seek help from their usual health care provider.
If you want to impress prospective employers, you have to make the most of your credentials. Here are some excellent tips for creating a resume that sells your skills and accomplishments to employers.
Mistake #8: You cut it short. A series of interviews can eat up your whole day, so it is tempting to keep them brief. But a quick meeting just doesn't give you enough time to gauge a candidate's responses and behavior. Judging candidates is nuanced work, and it relies on tracking lots of subtle inputs. An interview that runs 45 minutes to an hour increases your chances of getting a meaningful sample.
Employees need to know in advance what is expected of them. If they do not know in advance, they are more likely to do the wrong things.
In a brief statement, describe the basic purpose of your job: Why does it exist?
Examples of ethical problems in organizations are all around us. When we read about the ethical problems organizations are experiencing, our reaction is often, Am I ever glad that didn't happen here!
The amount of paper the average worker must deal with is overwhelming. Computerization seems to have made things even worse. Here are some suggestions for better document management.
hrm is viewed as an all-embracing term describing a number of distinctive approaches to people management. Part 1 helps you to understand and evaluate the different and sometimes ambiguous views of human resource management by investigating its origins, explanatory models, technology and practice
The model described above gives insight into the effectiveness, or ineffectiveness, of employee development efforts. it can help us understand why one employee has changed his/her behavior after training while another has not.
Employers have to be acutely aware of the rise in discrimination, unfair dismissal and sexual/racial harassment cases in recent years and the detrimental effects this can have on the employees and the organisation.
Regular, balanced and systematic appraisals must be administered consistently in order to evaluate the performance of each individual in the organization. This allows human resources to pinpoint the weaknesses of an individual’s work style and the strengths. They can then share this information with the employee in order to affect a change in performance. This in turn will lead to more productivity and potentially better returns on human investment.
There may be much reminiscing about the happy times in the old job, followed by extreme sadness at its loss. At the extreme, there may be a proneness to depression as exhibited by excessive crying and/or sleeping. There may be serious withdrawal from friends and normal activities. When severe, professional counseling can be extremely helpful or even essential.
